ROC Plus coming with ROC 1.1

ROC 1.1 will still be free, but will also come with an extra service. Now you have to remember a long login to access ROC. With ROC Plus you will be able to choose a short word or even a letter to access your ROC client. ROC Plus will cost 3$ for an entire year.

ROC 1.1 will be released next month and will feature : the boot-bugfix, more commands, an improved online manager and ROC Plus.

An opensource variant OpenROC is still under consideration and might not be released at all.

Still some tools to be updated

We already gave an update round to LockPhix, SpeedShut, iDuelpro Mobile and Duelpro 2008, making the first two OpenSource and applying the Phoenxsoftware XOSL (Opensource License). Now we still need to do some more tools, including FileTorment, LoadDown, CachePhix and ROC. I will briefly explain the coming updates to these tools.

First of all, the next tool to be updated will be FileTorment. FileTorment 4 will be released under the XOSL-license and will feature context menu deletion, stronger wiping tools for active applications and registered dll’s and interface changes which will make FileTorment easier to operate in case of mass file deletion. If there is time left we will add bulk deletion options.

The second tool which will be updated is ROC. ROC 1.1 will fix the error at boot and will also be released as OpenROC. OpenROC will be released under the GNU public license. In that way if an incident like the one with the recently released LockPhix (where a version was released containing a trojan+breaking the icon/image license) occurs again we can use GNU to put pressure on villains. The GPL will also enable us to incorporate strong opensource encryption algoritms instead of the encryption algoritm in the proprietary version. By also supplying an opensource version we can make sure that hackers aren’t able to decode the server-datastreams of the proprietary version. Keep in mind that the use of GPL is a one time event and that we do not encourage such licenses which force people to take certain actions thus destroying the entire concept of freedom.

The third tool to be released is LoadDown 2.2 which will also be made OpenSource under the XOSL license and which will feature a new interface, new options to limit the uptime and increased help documents.

The last update will be CachePhix 2.0 which will be released under the XOSL license and will feature adjustable options and operating system recognition.

So this makes 6 opensource tools and decent improvements this year for all our small system tools.

OpenSource windows system utilities

A while ago I decided to make a few system utilities we created in the first 2 years of our existence OpenSource. We don’t have a lot of time to continue their development and it still are OK applications, so I don’t like watching them waste away. That’s why I will put FileTorment, LoadDown, LockPhix and CachePhix in OpenSource hands, like I did with SpeedShut 4.

ROC our remote operating client will get an OpenSource variant called OpenROC. OpenROC will be the same but without encryption, this is to avoid that anyone is able to decrypt communication between the manager and the client of the normal ROC. OpenROC will get its own separate manager and will be put online with PHP-source code for the manager as well.

These changes in license will be applied when the next update is released of all these applications, somewhere this summer. All will be released under the XOSL (Phoenxsoftware OpenSource License). This license is created for SpeedShut and is comparable to the BSD license. Everything can be used freely in any project or under any name without having to give any credits, except the resources integrated and any names used. So you can decide to completely copy LockPhix but then you will have to rename it and make a new interface.

XOSL is developed because I think GPL is blocking people’s freedom to freely use code and that is not what OpenSource is all about!

I will put these applications in OpenSource hands to make room for coming proprietary projects which require our full attention. As will become clear at the end of this week.

Happy 2009 + What’s new in 2009!

First of all, Phoenxsoftware wishes you all the very best for 2009. In 2008 we had  a total of 131.635 visitors and our software was downloaded +-150.000 times. Now the first hours into 2009 we have had 47 visitors 91.8% windows, 6.9% Mac and 1% Linux, 16 downloading Duelpro 2008, 3 LoadDown, 2 ROC, 2 iDuelpro Widget, 1 FileTorment and 1 LockPhix. All very interesting statistics, but now what’s for the future?

I have made a pdf for all project members with the new 2009 releases and I’ll give you a walkthrough :

1. 36-image converter 4.5 “Chameleon” (freeware):

Most of you have been expecting this, a usable, solid version of 36IC which can display images up to 1920×1200 pixels, expected release date : January 4th 2009.

Things may change but this is what we have planned for 2009, more about some releases later.

What’s coming in 2009?

2008 was a good year for us. 36-image converter reached the top 20 of the most popular image editors with 1800 downloads a week, it was also featured in many computer magazines. We mostly abandoned our old platform for development and started converting all our applications to Delphi for Win32.  We released our first OpenSource application : SpeedShut 4.0 and we improved our site’s feedback system by using MySQL. We are currently at a stable amount of +-13.000 visitors a month and it is still rising bringing our amount of unique visitors for 2008 to an estimated 140.000.

Now what’s coming in the near future?

Iphix dev, the new development department of 36-image converter will release a new version of 36-image converter soon. Version 4.5 will be an improvement in many ways. We will also release a light version of 36-image converter in combination with an image library application, it will weigh about 3mb and will be comparable to Google Picasa.

We will release more OpenSource system utilities for windows and the existing ones will be updated. Focus will be also put on ROC.

As you might have noticed, we started development for Mac OSX and other Apple platforms such as Iphone. Soon you can expect a native iDuelpro for Mac OSX and more useful applications too. In a while there will also be an iDuelpro Mobile for Iphone. Hereby we are breaking bounds with the Redmond software giant Microsoft that loyally served us for many years as we royally served it.

Brecht Ceyssens and I are working on a secret project for windows that will shake the entire software-world. This will probably be the top innovation for UIC Phoenxsoftware for 2009. One point of the project is that I’ve found a way to break the batch habits of modern PC’s and execute a large amount of tasks simultaneously thus performing batch tasks within a few milliseconds instead of within seconds, minutes, hours or even days. Using this technique I will redevelop all current batch applications creating some of the fastest applications on this planet. File copiers, backup applications, file indexers, the possibilities are endless.

Our site will also be updated in 2009.

Release : ROC 1.0 (Remoting Operating Client)!

Yesterday evening (GMT+1) we released the first release of our ROC. With ROC you can execute actions on a remote PC which you can set using an online Manager. ROC is made to be easy to use and easier to configure. All you have to do is generate an ID online and insert it into your ROC client. It will automatically be accepted. It will also be uploaded to Download.com, but this will take a while since Upload.com is down.
